Wire thickness (gauge):
- 24 gauge (thinnest)
- 22 gauge (thin)
- 20 gauge (standard) - 20 gauge platinum hoops are stiff to open and close, particularly in the smaller inner diameters like 5mm and 6mm.
Why is platinum special? Platinum is associated with luxury and wealth because it is a very rare metal, 20 to 30 times more rare than gold. It is a beautiful metal, not as bright in color as sterling silver, but not as dark as titanium. It is more hypoallergenic, more durable, and is sold in purer form than gold. This .950 platinum ring is comprised of 95% pure platinum and 5% ruthenium...nothing else. Ruthenium is similar to platinum and is added to strengthen the metal to make it ideal for jewelry applications such as this hoop.
This ring is 100% handcrafted by me from start to finish with solid .950 platinum wire, which I source from a reputable and trusted U.S. supplier. Ends are hand filed for smooth, comfortable insertion, and each ring is tumbled for several hours to a high polish.
You can expect this rare, precious metal ring to last a lifetime if you take care to avoid chemicals as much as possible and occasionally polish your platinum ring.
